Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship Program (DoD IASP)

As a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, JMU students in are eligible to apply for the DoD IASP.

This program is executed by the National Information Assurance Education and Training Program (NIETP) of the National Security Agency (NSA) on behalf of the DoD.

Rising junior and senior undergraduates, master’s and doctoral candidates, and graduate certificate program students who are U.S. citizens and are at least 18 years of age are eligible for consideration for the program

Following is a brief description of the DoD scholarship program. Please read the documents linked from this page for details.

Student interested in this scholarship should attend a short Info Session on Wednesday January 18th at 5:00 P.M. in room CISAT 140, Cyber Security Lab.

Out of campus students and students who can't make it to the session should contact Dr. Heydari ASAP.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Rising junior and senior undergraduate or masters' program students,
  • Students who are U.S. citizens,
  • Undergraduate students must have a GPA of 3.2 or better (3.5 or better for graduate students), and
  • Must be able to obtain security clearance.

Scholarship Pays for:

  • The full cost of tuition, select fees, required books, lab expenses, supplies and equipment incurred by students selected for the program.
  • Students will be provided a stipend to cover room and board expenses:
    • Undergraduate students will receive a stipend of $14,000, per academic year
    • Graduate (masters and Ph.D.) students will receive a stipend of $19,000, per academic year
    • Disabled students may receive additional allowances.

Recipient Obligations:

  • Scholarship recipients have to serve, as a civilian employee, in a DoD agency one year for each year they receive the scholarship,
  • They must be able to participate in the DoD internship program each summer (other times may be arranged). This is most likely a paid internship!
  • Students may have to attend a conference during each summer.

This scholarship is very competitive, so any application that is not appropriately submitted will be dismissed.
